As a part of our ongoing effort to minimize the ecological impact inherent to our line of work, STRS has begun to utilize used packing materials whenever possible. After some searching, we recently found a local source for used foam. This foam gives us an effective material that protects not only our products, but also the environment. By reusing it, we are keeping it out of landfills. It also allows us to safely pack our boxes without having to use new materials, effectively halving the amount of material that can be introduced into the environment. Using this foam also reduces shipping and handling costs, allowing us to pass the savings on to our customers. So whether you need receipt printers, HP LaserJets, or terminals, you will save money and do your part for the environment when you make your purchase with STRS.
Do you have an idea for how we can do more to help the environment? If so, please let us know.

Dot Matrix is Still the King
In this age of high technology where what is newest is often best, people may wonder why dot matrix printers are still being sold when there are affordable laser printers available. One reason for their continued popularity is the money you will save on consumables. If you consider that some laser toner cartridges cost as much as a new printer, it's no wonder that people are still in the market for dot matrix printers. Dot matrix printer ribbons are considerably cheaper and also quite long lasting. Dot matrix printers also have the ability to print multi-part forms, not only saving you money, but also saving you time. Some people might counter that saving money is great, but if the print quality is poor, then what's the point? What many don't realize is that the print quality can be adjusted to suit your needs. Printing a ton of internal data or spreadsheets? Just set the printer to a higher speed draft mode and your print job will finish quicker. Printing invoices for your customers? Then a letter quality mode will ensure a great looking printout. And those worried about connectivity need worry no longer. The Oki-320 Turbo USB Printer gives you the benefits of a dot matrix printer with an interface that is compatible with all modern computers. With all this in mind, why not consider a dot matrix printer from STRS for your next office equipment purchase?

OKI 3410 & 395 printers who else does this much!
Hello,
I have been in the printer refurb business for over 15 years and I am one of the owners here at STRS. I started thinking, who else can repair their own printheads and power supplies in house? I've never come across another vendor or printer company that can do this! If you're in the market for printers then look no further. If you buy an OKI 3410 or OKI 395 from us then you know that the power supply has been worked on to component level. Most companies that I have worked for in the past would not even look at the power supply if they already worked. Usually the only reason you had to change one out was because it wasn't working. After fixing several these myself, it has become apparent that they all need some work done to assure long life. Same goes for the printheads unless they are new. We adjust or fix our printheads to as close to new as possible to ensure long life. So if you purchase printers of any sort you might want to make STRS your first choice. There are a ton of companies out there that just clean, test and call it refurbished. Just thought I would let the consumers know that STRS takes pride and upholds honor in a industry that few dare to tread.
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
AKA: SUPERTECH

In response to the uncertain financial situation we find ourselves in today, many companies are looking for ways to cut overhead. However, given modern business' reliance on technology, one can't simply stop buying and repairing office equipment if they are to retain a competitive edge. Because of this, many see no alternative and must consider such purchases and repairs as costs of doing business. One sure-fire method to cut costs is to buy refurbished equipment. Okidata's factory warranty repair can take anywhere from one to four weeks, leaving your business without vital equipment for up to a month. Since our warranty repair turnaround time is usually just two to three business days, you can rest assured that you will be back up and running ASAP.

How to Enable Parallel Port Plug and Play Detection
You can easily install some Printers such as the HP Laserjet Series, Okidata 320 Turbo, Epson Dot Matrix Printers and other Refurbished Printers using the legacy plug and play detection rather than installing the driver manually. This method uses the Printers LPT1 Parallel Port and will work with most, but not all of the Refurb Printers we sell. Visit our Support Section for Drivers, Manuals and Troubleshooting Tips. Follow the steps below:
To enable Plug and Play detection:
1.Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and then click Properties.
2.Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
3.Click to expand Ports, right-click Printer Port (LPT1), and then click Properties.
Note: If have more than one printer port installed on your computer, click LPT2 or LPT3.
4.Click the Port Settings tab, click Enable legacy Plug and Play detection, and then click OK.
5.Restart your computer when you are prompted to do so. After you restart your computer, Windows detects your Plug and Play hardware and the New Hardware Installation Wizard starts if the hardware is connected to the computer.

The Importance of Firmware Updates & OEM Parts
Struggling with troubleshooting a stubborn HP Laserjet Printer? It may be as easy as a Firmware Update. I recently repaired an HP Laserjet 4250n Printer that had sporadic 13.01 Paper Jams as well as 49.4200 Errors and 49.CF1 Service Errors. Surprisingly, the Paper Jams and the Formatter Errors (49 errors) were related to an old version of HP's firmware. In May, HP just released the newest firmware for the HP Laserjet 4250 Series 08.015.0 (23 May 2008) and I recommend upgrading via HP's WebJetadmin Software or FTP Method ASAP. Onto a little clone vs. OEM discussion...
At STRS, we always use the highest quality HP Parts. Most of the time these are OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), but sometimes we find clone parts that are of the same quality as OEM. Unfortunately, we have also found some clone parts put in Cheap HP Printers are not worth the savings. I've been so frustrated troubleshooting an entire printer, only to find that the brand new part you put in is malfunctioning. In one case an Hewlett Packard 4200 Series Pickup Roller's rubber was spinning independently of the plastic, which is not supposed to happen. Through our experience, we use the best parts for our Refurbished Printers, Refurb Scanners and Tabloid Printers.
